Girl or guy–who doesn’t swoon over Brett Anderson? Gaaahhh! So pretty.
In case you haven’t heard, “Suede will release their stunning new album ‘Night Thoughts‘ on January 22nd, 2016.” That happens to be my birthday, so if anyone wants to gift it to me on iTunes… Happy Birthday to me!
Here’s the US and UK version for your viewing pleasure. Which one do you like better?
The Crow is one of my favorite movies of the 90s. It has an amazing dark and romantic soundtrack. I just love how The Cure‘s song plunges in and sweeps you away.
I wish they hadn’t made the sequels. They should have just left it alone. There is a remake of The Crow struggling to materialize, but the project seems cursed. Fine with me. There is no replacing this movie, especially because of the tragic death of its star.
The first book of my series-in-progress is set in New Hope, Pennsylvania; a tiny town harboring an eclectic mix of history, art, and assorted weirdness. During my recent trip to New Jersey, I was able to pop across the Delaware River to investigate.
While I was there, my aunt informed me that the band Ween is from New Hope. Ween happens to be one of my favorite bands from the 90s. Freaky coincidence? No, not really, but please enjoy this special selection from their 1994 album, Chocolate and Cheese.
I know, I know… this song was first released in 1988. And it gained more notoriety from the movie Fight Club, which didn’t come out until the tail end of the 90’s.
I wasn’t into the Pixies in ’88 because I was only eleven years old and still listening to Milli Vanilli, but I did become a diehard fan long before Chuck Palahniuk‘s book was made a movie.
I’m adding this song to 90’s Monday because that’s when I discovered the Pixies and have listened to them ever since. This song is from the album Surfer Rosa, but I love all their albums. They are the band that always does it for me no matter how many times I listen to them or how music changes. They may just be my all time favorite band EVER.
During the 90’s Frank Black went solo and Kim Deal formed The Breeders. I had the pleasure of seeing Frank Black and the Catholics on one of my chemically-soddened birthday’s at some venue in downtown Orlando. Circa 2004, my dream came true when the Pixies reunited and I went to their concert somewhere in South Florida. In my brief stint as a bass player our band covered this song. I got to play Kim Deal’s part and sing the eerie “oooh-ooooooohhhh!!!”
During their performance at the 1992 Reading Festival, the band… were forced to stall their set. The rowdy crowd grew restless and began throwing mud onto the stage. In protest, lead vocalist Donita Sparks removed her tampon on-stage and threw it into the crowd yelling “Eat my used tampon, fuckers!” Sparks has remained unapologetic about the incident. This has been referred to as one of the “most unsanitary pieces of rock memorabilia in history.”Wikipedia
